    <abstract language="eng"><p class="normal-font">The extraction and spectroscopic studies of natural dyes from Brosimiumrubescens, Acer saccharium and Astoniascholarisare described. The present study was taken up as an exploratory study to find out if some natural dyes can have properties that could make them qualify to be used as alternative sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells. Three natural dyes, extracted from Brosimiumrubescens, Acer saccharium and Astoniascholaris were characterized, using UV-VIS, IR, ‘H.NMR and 13CNMR analyses. The results of the UV-VIS analysis showed that the dye extracts absorbed in the near infrared region. This proved that they could find use as dye-sensitized solar cells as well as organic photoconductors. The effects of DMSO and CDCl3 solvents in the absorption of the dye extracts by the NMR spectrophotometer were also evaluated.</p>
