A significant decrease in Russia’s industrial production in the first quarter of
the current year has shown a higher dependence of Russian industry on world economy,
unlike other economic sectors. In this context a research on global tendencies of industrial
development appear to be relevant, especially for development of priorities in Russia’s
state industrial policy. The main objective of the study is to define the tendencies of
global industrial development which should be taken into account in implementing the
Russian state industrial policy at the present stage of reforms. The article provides a
comparative and structural-functional analysis of global industrial development aspects.
The article concluded that Russia and a number of developing countries are facing the
challenge to find new drivers of growth and to ensure the development of new niches at
the world market in the context of globalization and specialization. This should lead to
a gradual restructuring of industrial sector, including by means of the Russian industrial
policy focused on support of vertical industrial clusters creation. Among the results
recorded, a special attention should be paid to some tendencies of global industrial
development, such as advanced growth of industrial production in developing countries,
especially in the countries of Asian-Pacific region, with a clear trend towards an increase
in industrial production growth rates in some developed countries and with a relative
decrease of these indicators in developing countries during post-crisis recovery (2009-
2010). Furthermore, the developed economies are characterized by the prevalence of hitech
productions.
